From Show Me to Golden
Missouri roots + California soul

I’ve always been interested in a lot of different things. I love writing, cooking, planning, and especially connecting with people, communities, and the places that feel like home. I was born in Oceanside, California, raised in Missouri, and eventually found my way back to the ocean. That’s really the story behind From Show Me to Golden — Missouri roots + California soul.
This space will be a mix of comfort food, writing, planning, community, and the local places that make life interesting. There will be recipes, stories, reflections, and probably a few things I haven’t even thought of yet.
I love comfort food because so much of it comes with a memory. A recipe can remind you of a person, a place, or a particular time in your life. I’m also figuring out how to make some of those foods work better for me without giving up the warmth, familiarity, and comfort that made me love them in the first place.

This is a Christmas list I wrote when I was seven years old, back in 1977. I asked Santa for a long coat, a typewriter, a kickball, a baby a-live, a Barbie, a swing set, a play microphone, and a swimming pool. Looking at it now, I have to smile. I’m pretty sure the writing part stuck.
I’m 56, and I’m still figuring some things out. I’m making plans, changing plans, learning new things, and occasionally changing my mind. I figure I can share some of that along the way. I don’t have everything figured out. And honestly, I don’t think I need to.

Mostly, I want this to be real. Not perfect. Not curated. Just meaningful.
